If you have an office or desk job, you probably spend most of your day looking down at a computer or laptop. This can lead to poor posture, which in turn can cause debilitating neck pain that interferes with your ability to work effectively. Chiro-Med Health Center provides some tips to prevent neck pain at your computer desk and enhance your overall wellness.

Maintain Good Posture

Poor posture is the main culprit behind work-related neck pain. On the bright side, good posture is one of your best lines of defense. When sitting at your desk, be sure to keep your feet flat on the floor and ensure that your head is in a neutral position - no angling down towards your desk. You should also try not to round your lower back, as this contributes to spinal misalignments and neck pain.

Practice Better Ergonomics

You can dramatically reduce your neck pain at work by optimizing ergonomics. If possible, raise your computer monitor or laptop so you can look at it directly ahead, rather than having to angle your neck downwards. In addition, you’ll want to have your forearms parallel to the ground as you type - this will help keep your shoulders in their optimal position. You may also wish to invest in a standing desk to reduce your time spent sitting.
